Robert Glasper Experiment – “Afro Blue” Ft. Erykah Badu

The new LP from the jazz/hip hop/R&B pianist Robert Glasper includes “Afro Blue” featuring Erykah Badu, as well as collaborations with Shafiq Husayn, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def), Musiq Soulchild, Chrisette Michele, and more, drops on February 28.
“Real music is crash protected,” state the liner notes of Black Radio, a future landmark album by theRobert Glasper Experiment that boldly stakes out new musical territory and transcends any notion of genre, drawing from jazz, hip-hop, R&B and rock, but refusing to be pinned down by any one tag. Like an aircraft’s black box for which the album is titled, Black Radio holds the truth and is indestructible.”

VTech & Fresh Selects present a surprise Erykah Badu performance @ The Fix
On July 2nd, VTech & Fresh Selects came together to throw its biggest collaborative show yet – a surprise afterparty performance from the one and only ERYKAH BADU at Portland’s most respected hip-hop party, The Fix. Not only was this Ms. Badu’s first show within Portland city limits in years – but it was held at Someday Lounge, an intimate 300-capacity club, which in itself is a rare element to catch the larger-than-life singer in.
Opening up for Erykah was a joint performance from Georgia Anne Muldrow (who has written & produced on her last two albums) & Dudley Perkins, who quickly won over the beyond sold-out crowd and set the pace and energy for the rest of the night, along with DJ sets from The Fix residents, Rev Shines, DJ Kez and Dundiggy.
With the last minuteness of the announcement of Badu’s appearance (the news was only officially announced 3 hours before the venue doors opened to lines around the block at 9 PM) – the buzz and rumors about the show had run rampant around the city. Some questioned whether the show was a hoax or if she would merely show up but not perform at all., etc. So just as all the talk, tension and excitement was reaching its peak, they cut the music a little bit after midnight and Rev Shines got on the mic to announce Ms. Badu as she graced the stage – and the room went ballistic like never before.
Backed by her DJ, legendary producer Rashad “Tumblin Dice” Smith, Erykah ran her set & commanded the eager crowd like a lovingly militant drill instructor – a whistle attached to a custom-made ring and all. She performed 6 or 7 crowd favorites from her last couple of albums and then brought it all to a head with an accapella performance of the very powerful, “Soldier” – and the crowd was right there along with her for every word and adlib. She then exited the stage just as quickly and even mystically as she had arrived, and the party continued well into the night.

Erykah Badu - “I Want You”

Worldwide Underground is the third studio album by American R&B and neo soul musician Erykah Badu, released September 16, 2003 on Motown Records. Recording sessions for the album took place during 2003, following Badu’s period of writer’s block and her performing on the Frustrated Artist Tour. Production was handled primarily by production group Freakquency, which consists of Badu, Rashad Smith, James Poyser, and RC Williams. Prominently incorporating hip hop and funk elements, the album features an unconventional musical structure and minimal songwriting concerning hip hop culture, love, ghetto life, and gang culture.
The album debuted at number three on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling 143,561 copies in its first week. It earned gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America and produced three singles that achieved moderate chart success. Upon its release, Worldwide Underground received generally positive reviews from most music critics. The album has sold 609,000 copies in the United States

Erykah Badu - “20 Feet Tall”

New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh) is the fifth studio album by American R&B and neo soul musician Erykah Badu, released March 30, 2010 on Universal Motown. Production for the album was handled by several producers, including J Dilla, Questlove, James Poyser, Madlib, 9th Wonder, Sa-Ra, Georgia Anne Muldrow, and Karriem Riggins. Contrasting its sonically complex and socially-themed predecessor, New Amerykah Part One (4th World War) (2008), the album contains a prominently groove-based, analog sound with personal and love-related lyrical themes.
The album debuted at number four on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 110,000 copies in its first week. It achieved moderate international success and produced two singles, “Window Seat” and “Turn Me Away (Get MuNNY)”. Upon its release, New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh) received general acclaim from most music critics.
